Product Description God and sex go together. You can’t separate the two, says Rob Bell, because this physical world is intimately linked to deeper spiritual realities. And so, in order to make sense of sexuality, at some point you have to talk about God. With beauty and unusual insight, Sex God explores this connection.

Refreshing January 5, 2009 Rob Bell has a unique way of communicating deep points in a way that is understandable and inviting. I love his story about Love and Control. These two are truely mutually exclusive . Thanks Rob
He just doesn't get it December 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mr. Bell should take a Bible class (yes, I know he runs a huge "church"). His book is tasteless, and worse...incorrect in understanding of Bible truths.
Please! Jesus teaches that marriage is a picture of Christ and the Church. Jesus is the bridegroom, we are his bride. Please don't tell me that unmarried people can just have sex on their own terms and God thinks that's holy! I sure hope Jesus isn't so fast and loose with righteousness!
Sadly, I can believe, in this day of "Po-Mo" relativism, that Bell attracts a large audience. It's a lot harder to gather followers who are willing to "die" to themselves and their selfish ways, admit their sin for what it is, and then be totally available to God and have trust enough to obey the leading of the Spirit that dwells within the true Christian (See John ch 6...Jesus lost MANY disciples when they found out that He wanted to dwell in them and rule their lives).
It's just so gut-wrenching watching the church go downhill. Bell and this book are helping the slide...
It's all about self, not Christ December 12, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Another example of how Rob Bell perpetuates the original sin of Adam...that we can't really know the truth from God's word, and that we can be our own gods, knowing good and evil for ourselves!Ooops! I forgot--Bell doesn't believe the story of Adam & Eve is real. He also does not believe in the virgin birth (check out the account in Matthew. Whether the word means virgin or young girl doesn't matter...Mary & Joseph had not been together, yet she was pregnant with God's son, Jesus). He also does not believe that 300 people could figure out which books of the Bible were inspired by the Holy Spirit and put them together intelligently into what we call the Bible. Soooo, I guess it's whatever you make of it?? Or, whatever Bell makes of it?
I agree with another reviewer that Bell is a wolf in sheep's clothing, but it's soooo very subtle. It's warm, fuzzy, kind, sensitive...but, trouble is, it's the opposite of what the Bible teaches.
The Gospel is so simple. We're sinners, God's holy. We admit it and turn away from sin and turn to God. We accept Jesus' sacrifice for our sin on the cross, believe that He rose again to prove He has power over death and then receive Him as Lord over our lives. Once forgiven, we are fit to have His Holy Spirit come and live within us. The Spirit of God can lead us into all truth and, if we listen to Him, will tell us how to live righteous lives and accomplish God's will. Isn't that simple?
We don't need post-modern empty philosophy to take us captive again to the hollow opinions of misguided men. We certainly don't need more unmarried couples, fornicating at will, and being blessed by Bell as something holy!!
What we do need and what we can have is God, Himself, to show us what's true. I'm going to read the Bible over Bell from here on out.
Wouldn't it be better if we all did?
Rob Bell disgusts me December 2, 2008 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
First of all, why isn't anyone else more than appalled that Rob Bell would besmirch the name of God, let alone the nature of God just to sell a few thousand books. The man should be ashamed. Rob Bell is nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing leading thousands down the path to destruction in the supposed name of our Lord. Jesus's brother Jude as well as Jesus himself warn us to be on the lookout for apostates that will come in the name of the Lord but actually be from the devil. Rob Bell is one of those. "That's impossible" you say! "Rob tells us all about the loving nature of God and how warm and squishy He makes us feel." Why do you think that he's so successful? It's because REAL Christianity is hard. It takes sacrifice, discipline and a total commitment. With Rob Bell's version you get Jesus Lite. The problem is that you won't get to Heaven his way.
What should a person do to get to Heaven? If you said, "There is no Heaven" or "You just have to live a good life", YOU ARE WRONG. Stay with me and find out why. Let's see if you've been a good person. Jesus said "Whoever looks with lust has committed adultery in their heart". Have you ever lusted? Have you hated anyone(committed murder in your heart)? Have you made a god in your mind to suit yourself(idolatry)? Have you used God's name in vain? Have you ever stolen anything regardless of value? If you have then you are a thief. If you have told just one lie, then you are a liar and CANNOT get into heaven. On Judgment Day you will be found guilty and end up in Hell forever. But that's not God's will. We broke his Law but because Jesus paid our fine by dying on the cross, God can forgive us. If you repent and trust the Savior, God will forgive your sins and grant you everlasting life. So confess your sins to God today, put your faith in Christ, and obey God. Read John 14:21
