Product Description For years, Christians have been told that sex is God's creation, designed by him as a gift to husbands and wives. Yet few couples actually experience sex as a spiritual, God-ordained experience. Rather than admit their lack of fulfillment, many couples hide their disappointment and confusion, while others attempt to solve the problem through better sexual technique.
Unfortunately, all the advice on improved technique fails to explain the one thing that makes sense of it all. Despite the proliferation of resources to enhance sexual satisfaction, couples continue to struggle in their sexual relationship. In fact, author and licensed counselor Tim Gardner estimates that as few as 2 percent of married couples ever experience a truly exciting, energizing, and soul-touching physical bond. But now, that can change.
A couple's sexual relationship has a far higher purpose than pleasure or procreation. Scripture makes it clear that sex is the one thing on earth that joins two people into one. Now readers can learn how to approach marital sex in a way that brings the fulfillment of true oneness. Sacred Sex shows how they can experience a beautiful, God-ordained life of intimacy that blesses them far beyond the bedroom walls, serves as an act of worship to God, and touches their hearts and souls in ways they never could have imagined.

Revolutionize Your Marriage December 23, 2008 Wow! This book was incredible. Tim Alan Garner really made me think about my marriage, and the greater meaning behind the sacred aspect of sex.
I believe that if I had been taught much of Gardner's material earlier in life, I could have avoided some very unfortunate encounters and relationships.
I would recommend this book for any young couple getting ready for marriage, or for men and women already married who perhaps have never thought about bringing God into the middle of their (sexual) relationship.
Great when preparing for marriage November 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a single woman in my early 20's and not in a relationship. I picked up this book out of a longing to combat the ideals of this sex-saturated culture with the truth of God's word. Gardner's committment to the gospel and pursuit of God's agenda throughout the book was very refreshing; he continues to bring everything back to Christ; Christ is the center of marriage and reason for marriage from the beginning to the end of the book. I also love the importance that he placed on honest communication and prayer. When I bought this book, I did not know that it was going to be geared towards couples. And though I found that there were certain portions of the book not suitable for a single woman to be reading (and I had to skim over quite a bit so as not to "awaken any desires before its time" :) ) - I finished the book hungry for a holy marriage that honors and glorifies God and I found myself longing for someone to have discussions with after every chapter! It opened my eyes to the lies that I believed about sex - and to see all the ways that Satan has distorted and perverted such a good gift from God. I can now rejoice in the fact that sex is not something that is dirty or physiological or meaningless but sex is glorious worship! - a holy celebration between man and wife alone. It makes me feel so honored and beautiful to know that God has kept me pure by his grace and that he is making me and His Church a magnificent Bride. This will definitely be a book that I grab off of my dusty shelf and read together with my fiancee once God is ready. Thank you Dr. Gardner!
A whole new perspective of sex in Christian marriage. October 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful book that explores the purpose and potential of marital sex from a distinctly Christian perspective. I have read a number of other books from various Christian authors (including the Penners, the Parrotts, Dr. Rosenau, and others), which both directly or indirectly discus the marital sexual relationship, and I have never seen it presented in quite this way.
The author states that this book was written to address the still very common problem of unsatisfactory sexual relationships in Christian marriage - even though Christians, in general, know and believe that sex is a good and God ordained thing, and despite the deluge of information available to confront sexual dysfunction and to help enhance sexual pleasure. The author says that what he sees consistently with his clients is that "something big is still missing".
The basic premise of this book is that sex is not just a good and enjoyable aspect of the marriage relationship, but is, in fact, a holy and sacred act: an act whose purpose and goal is unity and oneness, and through which the full nature of God and his relationship to His church is revealed. Besides explaining the premise and the ideal, the author also spends a great deal of time discussing forces - both external (society, etc.) and internal (fear, etc.) - that keep us from experiencing all that God has designed for marital sexual intimacy.
I highly recommend this book. Read it with your spouse. Talk about it and go over the discussion questions. It has the potential to change everything you ever thought about sex.

...wow... a book for those who have everything. For those who think there is nothing new to learn & have had a nice time in marriage & have had a few rocks to climb over, this book is for everyone. Look under every rock, follow the author down a sometimes uncomfortable path and you will have a nicely ironed out relationship. Enjoyable quotes and good flow. Enjoyed the Dick Davidson quotes.
A Good Dose of Belly Laughter -- with Reverence! May 4, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Dr. Gardner quotes the great C.S. Lewis as saying, "Nothing is more needed on the whole subject of sex than a good dose of belly laughter." I couldn't agree more. And Gardner provides that without EVER being disrespectful, crude, vulgar, or offensive. It seems to me that the goal of Sacred Sex is to help couples experience the total JOY that God, the Creator or sex, intended for his married children. This book helps couples realize that sex is not primarily about pleasure or procreation, which is the focus of most books on sex. Rather, it is about "oneness;" and true oneness leads to deep and abiding joy.
Gardner also cites the renowned Dr. Howard Hendricks as saying, "We should not be embarrassed to discuss what God was not embarrassed to create." This book will help Believers get over their embarrassment of s-e-x as it brings a healthy amount of humor to a very sacred subject and provides excellent tools for couples to discuss this very sacred act. Readers will greatly benefit from the author's challenge to approach every aspect of their sex lives with the question, "Will this make us more 'one,' or will this drive us apart?"
Sacred Sex is a great balance of Scriptural truth, challenge to change, practical wisdom, reverence for the "Marriage Bed," and God-honoring fun! Couples should buy it, read it together, and Celebrate Oneness in Marriage the way God intended!
